Vanilla Shake

1 cup almond milk

Vanilla bean paste (seeds) from one bean

      (I typically use the seeds from one bean for one or up to five shakes.)

6-8 dates

3 ice cubes

Make a slit down the vanilla bean with a sharp knife, cutting through just one side of the bean, and scrape out the paste with the dull edge of a butter knife. Pit the dates. Mix all in a blender (the high-speed Vitamix® blender works perfectly).

Fruit may be added as a nice addition. Based on the sweetness of the fruit, more dates may be needed.

Serves 1, approximately 2 cups

 

I have found these shakes to have an immediately positive effect on the body. If I'm feeling a little out of sorts, I'm unexpectedly feeling great after the shake. If I'm feeling good, I feel even better after the shake. Guests have indicated the same.

I started the raw food diet in 2003, and this is the only recipe-made food I have consumed daily since then and to date.
