Almonds

Be sure to use organic, raw and unpasteurized almonds.

I purchase my almonds from:

Jaffe Bros.

28560 Lilac Road

Valley Center, CA  92082

(760) 749-1133

Toll free (877) 975-2333

jaffebros@att.net

These are organic, non-pasteurized (raw), imported almonds, 25 pounds for $247.00 ($9.88 per pound) as of October 6, 2015. Pricing for produce can be volatile given weather and other factors, so check for current pricing.

Prior to 2013, I purchased from:

Anderson Almonds

6401 Hultberg Road
Hilmar, CA  95324

(209) 667-7494

glenn@andersonalmonds.com

I order the nonpareil or carmel variety in 25-pound boxes. Chipped and scratched almonds are lower-priced, and are fine for making almond milk. Ask for organic and unpasteurized (see note below). Most recently, I paid $10 per pound.

I used to purchase from:

Living Nutz

P. O. Box 365

Bowdoinham, ME  04008

info@livingnutz.com

www.livingnutz.com

They have good pricing. I buy in 25-pound orders.

Living Nutz imports and sells organic, unpasteurized almonds from Spain.

NOTE: In 2007, a law passed requiring the pasteurization of American-grown almonds, supposedly to combat Salmonella. Pasteurization employs the use of heat, thereby rendering a raw nut no longer raw.

I have occasionally located U.S. growers who sell unpasteurized almonds. Inquire whether the almonds you buy are pasteurized. Packaging may not be required to disclose pasteurization.
